Choo Choo!

Swiss public transportation (CHF SBB) is a delight. Each city is linked to each other by train, and those that we planned to visit were mostly 1hr by train away from each other. Each city has a major train station linked to the rest of the cities, and each train station is in the middle of the major business district, and walking from place to place within the same city is definitely no problem. Trams and buses within the city are also clean, nice and very punctual. They have an electronic board at each stop to tell you how long the next ride takes to arrive.

Each train station also comes equipped with baggage lockers which we fully made use of, since we traveled from city to city we obviously had to lock our stuff somewhere before we explored the area. Not to mention, some of the train rides were absolutely delightful, through country/hill areas, with lotsa pictures of quaint villages, cows, sheep, framed by the majestic Swiss Alps.

If you’re a tourist and visiting Switzerland, please get the Swiss Pass. We got the Swiss Youth Pass (4 days unlimited free travel on all intercity train, trams and bus journeys within the cities, including boat rides and free entrance to many museums, not to mention discounts off mountain visits like Mt Titlis (50% discount!) All for abt than USD 150. The Golden Pass panoramic ride, which took us from Luzern to Interlaken, to Zweisimmen, and Montreux, a relaxing train ride through picturesque Swiss, was free too! (but I think it’ll be more worth it if it were Winter, and all of the Alps were covered with snow)

To me, the train rides were an essential part of our journey. Not having the opportunity to stop at the countryside, passing by them on the train was very lovely. We also got to see the plentiful vineyards around Cully! The rides were very relaxing, and there’s always lots to see and hear (cow bells!)

Check out our lovely pictures all taken on the Golden Pass line! (I’m too lazy to add captions, you can scroll over them and see the file names)
